I am very surprised by how lightweight this is, I could wear it all day no problem and they work great when wearing goggles. Except there isn't an awesome way to rest them in the forehead area, they easily slip up or down. But the bag the helmet came with was a nice touch. When the vents are closed they keep out the cold wind or let you breath a little better when open. The removable and washable liner is a little annoying to get back in but it's not a big deal and I'm not sure how else you could engineer the process. The helmet is adjustable enough (for my head size) to wear with or without a beanie underneath. I can't speak to the protection level as I have not taken a hard enough spill (knock on wood). This is a great helmet. I'm a newbie snowboarder so falling is going to be my MO until I get better. This helmet already saved my noggin during several spills at Big Bear. I'm quite happy with the fit and the comfort. The vents are extremely helpful if you have a warm head like I do. When the vents are closed, or slightly open, there is no need for a beanie or any other head cover, but your mileage may vary since that's all personal preference. If I had to pick a negative it would be that the back of the helmet doesn't have a grove etched out for the goggle band. It you're not careful, it will quickly slip up since there is nothing stopping it from moving upwards aside from the clip hook at the very back. This is a minor thing, and in my opinion, not worthy enough to remove a star.Just wanted to leave my feedback as well. I shop around a lot when buying big price items like this. I admit, I've been skiing for years without a helmet until one time about two years ago a buddy of mine ran into me (not his fault) and when I went down I bumped my head. Not hard, but it woke me up to the fact that I needed a helmet. After the reviews I got this one. I got the XL as I have a big head. I wear a size 7 5/8 fitted hat. This helmet fit perfectly. As far as use, it is very light weight and I didn't have any problems with it at all. Kinda a bummer that in the big size there are fewer color options(I got white), but whatever. Anyway, I'd definitely buy this again and recommend it. In fact I did, my brother got the same one in black and loved his as well.Helmet seems good. I measured my head several times all cooking up between 56,57, and at the widest 58. This is suppose to be good up to 59.... I’ll have to buy a new thin thin under armour beanie for this helmet as I think any other type of beanie will be too tight of a fit. The fit is rather snug. Well perfect fit but almost to perfect if I wanted to wear anything else I have minimal to no working room.I upgraded to this helmet from a very basic Lucky Bums one. This Smith one blows my old one away! It’s super lightweight (but not flimsy), so it’s comfortable to wear all day. It also doesn’t make me look like an “egghead” (some of the other Smith ones I tried on did), which I appreciate. The venting is great—not only the top ones (which are adjustable) but the forehead part as well. This forehead (I’m not sure what else to call it) venting has made a huge difference with regard to goggle fogging and goggle gap...I no longer have either!I had this helmet model the last 4 years and it saved me from several minor bumps and a few people waving their poles around. It is comfortable with good airflow for my goggles. It is warm enough that I ski with the top vents open as long as its not below 10F.I bought a new one because it finally took a hard enough hit where the foam was clearly cracked in several places. The newer ones feels a little bit smaller. I think it just has a bit more insulation but if you were maxed out in the older Large, you may want to try on XL before buying. The helmet is very nice, light enough, and the ventilation is nice to have. Value is very good.I wear a medium in every bike helmet I've ever had, but this medium was WAY too small. Unwearable. Now that I have tried many ski helmets, I seem to need a large in any brand.I tried on a number of helmet but chose this as having the best fit, the best soft lining, goggle strap on the back, plenty of adjustable venting and a nice line - no mushroom-head look in this helmet.Took quite the spill in this helmet; fell on my butt then onto the back of my head. Felt the impact with none of the damage to my cranium. Helmet checked out and determined to be in perfect shape.I would recommend this helmet and would purchase again if need be.
