This is my first cold weather sports helmet and I'm very impressed. I wore it for several days in 60mph+ winds while skiing and it provided excellent protection from the elements. I was easily able to close the vents on the top with thick mittens on which ensured I was toasty warm. I have very little hair so I had a thin wool balaclava on underneath for added warm. It still fit great. The helmet has several adjustments including tightening the overall size of the fit with a wheel in the back, a "tilt" adjustment (forward/aft) which helps refine the fit for your goggles and the more obvious strap to secure it to your head.Quality feels excellent and it was very comfortable, I forgot I had it on. I tried the helmet on in a nearby sporting goods store (where it was $20 more) which allowed me to choose goggles that had a similar profile along the top of the goggles and front ridge of the helmet. I'd recommend trying this helmet with your existing goggles if at all possible. If this fit isn't right then you may end up with a gap (think cold air leaking in and/or a nice whistling sound as you barrel down the mountain) or if it's too tight it will press the goggles downward making it harder to breath through your nose. The tilt adjustment can help refine this fit, but starting with goggles that pair well is a better starting point.Take care of your helmet. Store it where it won't get smooshed and permanently crush the softer parts, the original box works fine. It's easy to throw this stuff in the garage or attic in the off-season where the temperature and humidity vary greatly, but in my experience that shortens the life of your gear.Overall highly recommended and I feel warm and safe on the mountain.I wanted this because it had vents and looked decent. Big adjustable vents were a deal breaker for me (we'll see how useful they are) I would up getting a large which was too small for me so I returned it. I opted not to just get the larger version because the vent adjuster by design only opens the vents half-way. In the end who knows how much it affects airflow. I also noticed that even with a head that just barely fit into the large the earmuffs barely touched my ears. The earmuffs on this weren't like some helmets I tried where they didn't touch at all.Helmet fits great. Snug but when worn you don't even feel it. Great adjustment knob in the helmet. I also bought the 2.0 CHIPS that's compatible with the helmet. I've used both 6 times already and LOVE BOTH! I like that helmet has MIPS for extra protection. Purchased GIRO goggle too. Looks nice nice nice since they match and fit. Also better visibility lnow. The goggle have wide view. I'd recommend you buy this helmet. You really do need to try them on first. I went to REI for the fit and bought online. I told REI to lower their price to match Amazon and I'd buy there but they told me their point program for $20 was a better idea!?!?!?! They're crazy. I saved over $80 by buying online when this was on sale at the time for under $100. In the store they wanted $160 plus $20 point program. LOL!It fits extremely well with the adjustment strap on the back. I recommend going one size larger for growth if buying for kids. This helmet looks much higher end than most out their on the mountain. You get what you pay for. With that said not sure MIPS is worth the psychological advantage. I heard that MIPS comes into play during head accidents where the inner padding can shift or rotate inside. This means the helmet must hit the ground hard, somewhat stick to the ground and allow the inner padding to rotate inside. For a straight blunt impact or if you are sliding the technology may not offer any benefit. MIPS to me (not an expert on this technology) seems better suited for bike riders, motor cycle riders and skateboarders. Hitting the ground would provide the friction needed to activate the MIPS that I doubt snow and Ice would. Aside from that the helmet looks great and fits great! This would be a 5, but at the back of the helmet, where the cushion is finished, it is rough at that seem and chafes on the back of your neck when you look up. Other than that, this helmet is comfortable and fits awesome!I have skied for about 50 years and never wore a helmet. We bought two Giro Nine helmets this year. They fit great, hold your goggles. We really like them. The first day I wore it. We had a chair come in swinging all over and the chair hit me in the head. When we got to the top we checked the helmet, it has a dent in it from one of the large bolts on the chairlift. The dent would of been my right temple if I wasn’t wearing the helmet. At the least it saved my day of skiing. I will never ski without my Giro Nine on my head! Thank you for a great product! As someone with a huge head (e.g. I have to buy hats from a special store huge), the XL here is one of the few options that actually fits comfortably. Thankfully it's a good one. Warm, breathes well enough, light enough, and reasonably priced all things considered. If your ok my boat, don't hesitate to pick one up, and pray they don't stop making them.Love this helmet, upgraded from a 10 year old helmet to this and the comfort is so much better. I have a big head and this fit perfectly. The speaker pockets are a huge plus! Its not super cheap, but when it comes to protecting your head... I think you should spend the extra cash.I did quite a bit of research before buying the Giro 9 MIPS snow helmet having had a couple of cheap ones that, quite literally, fell to bits. The best advice I found about safety equipment was to buy the best you can afford but still be able to throw it away and buy another if you have a serious crash. With this in mind I looked at a lot of helmets from all the major outlets, I also read a lot of reviews from a few years back to see what was likely to be on the sale shelves now. Overall the Giro 9 MIPS came out very well, no bells or whistles but a good solid pedigree from a well respected manufacturer. At the time of purchase there were several colours available but the cheapest were matt black. The final tick was I found it on line for a very reasonable £ 75.00 including delivery (December 2019). I was not disappointed, it is light enough to be very comfortable for long wear on the slopes (in my case up to 7 hours) it has a very good adjustment system both for size and for 'goggle gap' and good adjustable ventilation for those sunny Blue days. It is also compatible with all Giro goggles and most other brands. I use Oakley and find these work well together except for some wind noise with the vents open. There are also stack vents to aid demisting goggles. The only down sides I could find were some reviews found the shape a bit loose on some head shapes and of course some prices which were in the 100's but I notice they are very good value now (March 2020, end of season) but beware of some adds which offer very cheap prices for either the very small or very large sizes, unless you are lucky to have a very small/large head!Never owned a helmet before, so difficult to gauge if it's better than others or not, but having now used it u thought it was very good.I measured my head at 58cm and the medium was perfect.Comfortable, easy to adjust, easy to take the ear covers off, good ventilation and good price.Beats hiring a used helmet!Really comfortable helmet. Removable earmuffs are great. Highly recommended. This is my second giro, now with mips. Love it.Arrived quickly. Well packaged. Great product.
