Well, it's time to say goodbye to the wonderful and absolutely comfortable Fox Speedframe. After 2.5 years it's been a outstanding helmet in terms of fit and all-day comfort. While I still agree I should have bought the large (read below), the medium worked very well. I purchased additional interior kits as they don't really last much longer than a year, probably the only down side to this helmet. This past weekend I had a pretty hard crash and my head hit a huge rock, the helmet took every bit of the impact. I got up, dusted myself off and finished the chunky DH. When I got back to my vehicle I took my helmet off and knew right then and there it served its purpose and was no longer trail worthy. Honestly I could have kept it but my head is worth more than a $180 helmet. Would I buy again? Absolutely. What an outstanding piece of kit. In retrospect it was a bit warm on summer day rides, again, maybe because I chose black but it was so comfortable. Just purchased a SMITH Forefront 2 to change it up. Review on that a little later. So far the SMITH has a very similar fit/feel to the FOX. But the SMITH works so much better with larger glasses as the brow of the FOX helmet interfered with my glasses.I wanted to wait to write a review of this helmet until I was able to spend some time with it. A little background about me, been riding MTB for 5+ years, 4 of that intermediate to expert. My first helmet was a FOX Flux, it was a budget helmet and did its job well, loved the fit. When the Bell Super 2R came out I wanted a more flashy helmet with an option for a front (removable) gaurd. Immediately I noticed that the Bell fit like it was sitting on top of my head whereas the FOX felt like it surrounded my head. I missed the feeling of the FOX.I stuck it out and rode with the Bell for a few years and decided recently to retire it due to numerous small crashes but mostly because of its age. This time around I was eager to get back into a FOX and noted how much I really liked the way the Speedframe looked. I measured my head and noticed I fell smack dab between a medium and a large. I chose medium and it fits great, unfortunately because of the medium size I cannot fit a sweatband very easily. In the cooler months I suspect it will not allow me to wear something to keep my head warm. I should have chose the Large. Still, no regrets. Now, the good stuff. I absolutely love this helmet! It feels like my head is inside the helmet, like FOX helmets have always felt to me. It's noticeably lighter than my Bell too. The strap system is considerably more adjustable and the magnetic closure system is just ingenious, once you use it you'll never want to go back.I will add, this helmet feels slightly warmer on a hot day and its certainly not due to a lack of vents, it's likely the colour (I chose black, old helmet was white). I also chose the PRO model as I wanted the better MIPS protection.
